5 minutes that could save you hours (Creator's Checkup)

Time Waits For No One (especially creators)

I've been asking our 360 creator community about what they are struggling with the most as they design their unique creator lifestyles, and time management was mentioned over and over.

Clearly, our lives are filled with responsibilities and distractions, and in the midst of all that, we want to do fulfilling and inspiring creative work.

While this challenge could take an entire lifetime to manage (and it will), here's a couple of quick concepts from God's Word and wisdom from my mentors that are helping me manage a busy schedule while staying creatively productive.

1) The Little Things Matter

Yes, I'm sure you've heard all about habits (we recommend Atomic Habits in our God and Gigs library), but the fact is that many of us simply fall out of practicing them.

Putting my clothes out for tomorrow morning, remembering to keep my keys in the right place - these small issues make a huge dent in my day when they slip through the cracks.

The problem?

The results show up in my lack of focus on my creative work, because stress negates inspiration. I can't get into the flow because I'm fighting frustration over the little annoying mistakes.

Instead, I'm working on making my to-do list really simple - and really focused on getting those little things done with minimal hassle.

2) I Run Out of Attention, Not Time

You've heard the phrase - we all have the same 24 hours. Here's the crazy thing - so did Jesus. In his book Redeeming Your Time, our friend Jordan Raynor shares how Jesus made sure to use every moment wisely in the brief 3 years of his ministry - and he constantly focused on what mattered the most. Sometimes our time management issue is simply a matter of WHO or WHAT deserves our focus.

My way of battling this is cutting out all news / social media unless totally necessary. It gives my brain the margin needed to keep my attention on the right things.

3) Course Corrections Are Normal

I've often gotten down on myself when a day slipped away without me spending time writing, finishing a song, or getting back into my creative habits.

But the struggle to have the 'perfect schedule' is the wrong battle. Instead of trying to design the optimal schedule, I'm trying to look at each day as a new chance to get a little more in line with productive, creative habits.

Just 5 more minutes of time in my work or my Word is a win.

Divine Attention to Details As we step into this year's celebration of the risen Savior, one thought has been echoing in my mind. Jesus had the most important mission of all time - which meant He had the most potential distractions of anyone who ever lived. Any missed moment, lapse of judgement, or wasted opportunity could have potentially knocked Him off course on His way to fulfill God's purpose. And yet, He didn't let a single ball drop. He took care of His family, even in His dying...

God and Gigs 360 Gold (Presentation (16:9))

Only one question This is a different kind of "Creator Checkup"... ..because I'm the one that needs checking on. I'm sending you this in the midst of the recovery period after a tough two weeks with my family. And while I know everyone in our community is facing something...it's important that I'm open and honest with you. Because it doesn't make sense to call this a "Checkup" if we don't admit when things are going right and when things are going wrong. My wife and I use this method all the...

Just how many hats are you wearing? I don't mean fedoras, sombreros or trucker hats, of course. I'm referring the metaphorical 'hats' that we all wear in our different roles, both in our creative work and in our families and personal lives. I experienced the hat-switching at a brand new level just this week, as I found myself coordinating a band for an artist 400 miles away, while simultaneously working on our church's podcast recording and publishing. Surely this is a sign of potential...
