Do You HAVE to Call Yourself a "Christian Creator"?

What's In a Name?

I was barely getting back on Instagram after a 21 day social media fast when I saw the reel.

It was Andy Mineo, a fixture in the Christian hip-hop community, on a podcast explaining why he no longer wants to be known as a Christian artist.

Of course the comment section was full of both support and dismay.

Now this discussion has been had over and over in our industry, but here's why it touches a nerve specifically for me.

For years I didn't use "Christian" in our branding and promotions, simply because I wanted to make sure those who were not totally involved in the Christian ministry wouldn't feel like we would welcome them.

It was not a question of faith - it was a signal that we don't have to explain everything. They will see who we are.

However, as I saw more and more Christian creator podcasts fade away, I realized that people who were searching for Christian creator resources wouldn't find us through internet searches.

So I added that label back in - again, having changed NOTHING about our content. It was simply to help us remain visible and accessible to our community.

My view is this - the label "Christian _______" has a purpose - but your purpose is not defined by your label.

Want to talk about it more? Join me on this Friday as we'll discuss this hot topic in our Creator Checkup livestream at 1pm Eastern.

Divine Attention to Details As we step into this year's celebration of the risen Savior, one thought has been echoing in my mind. Jesus had the most important mission of all time - which meant He had the most potential distractions of anyone who ever lived. Any missed moment, lapse of judgement, or wasted opportunity could have potentially knocked Him off course on His way to fulfill God's purpose. And yet, He didn't let a single ball drop. He took care of His family, even in His dying...

God and Gigs 360 Gold (Presentation (16:9))

Only one question This is a different kind of "Creator Checkup"... ..because I'm the one that needs checking on. I'm sending you this in the midst of the recovery period after a tough two weeks with my family. And while I know everyone in our community is facing something...it's important that I'm open and honest with you. Because it doesn't make sense to call this a "Checkup" if we don't admit when things are going right and when things are going wrong. My wife and I use this method all the...

Just how many hats are you wearing? I don't mean fedoras, sombreros or trucker hats, of course. I'm referring the metaphorical 'hats' that we all wear in our different roles, both in our creative work and in our families and personal lives. I experienced the hat-switching at a brand new level just this week, as I found myself coordinating a band for an artist 400 miles away, while simultaneously working on our church's podcast recording and publishing. Surely this is a sign of potential...
