Real Housewives of the Bible?

The First True Reality Show

Raise your hand if you started 2026 with a goal of reading your Bible more consistently.

You didn't see it, but my hand is raised.

Like many of you, I often struggle to maintain my daily Scripture reading habit.

Some weeks are perfect where I'm taking in the Word daily.

Others, I'm kicking myself and feeling the malnourishment and disconnectedness of not refueling with God's truth.

So to remedy this, I've switched back to listening to the Bible via the audiobook editions available on the YouVersion app.

(Side note: We just had our 3rd Bible Reading Plan on the YouVersion app reach over 1000 completions, which is an amazing accomplishment. Thank you to all of you who have been reading!)

Because my wife is an audiobook fan, it feels natural to play it in the car when we are riding together.

All of this sets up our drive a few days ago, when my Bible reading plan brought me to Genesis 19.

If you're unfamiliar, just be aware that in modern times, we would put an R or NC-17 rating on the themes and topics that come up in that chapter.

My wife gasped audibly as the narrator read the salacious moments recounted regarding Lot, his daughters, and the men of Sodom.

She knows the stories - but hearing it out loud made it more in-your-face.

And it was in that moment that I realized that the Bible, in many ways, was the first reality show, just without the TV.

The people in the narrative? Incredibly flawed, drama - filled, morally confused, making questionable decisions, and very misguided - just like your favorite reality show stars (I don't watch them, but I figure that's the kind of people in them)

Here's the takeaway that impacts all of us as creatives.

God did not edit the ugly parts out of the story.

He let us see the drama, the ugly truth, and the very dark moments.

What we might see as lurid topics to be avoided, He sees as lessons to be examined and understood.

Think about that as you explore what God is calling you to share with the world through your creator lifestyle.

It may be a difficult subject or project to handle or stomach.

But God is not scared of the dark.

He just wants to make sure we expose it without glorifying it.

Divine Attention to Details As we step into this year's celebration of the risen Savior, one thought has been echoing in my mind. Jesus had the most important mission of all time - which meant He had the most potential distractions of anyone who ever lived. Any missed moment, lapse of judgement, or wasted opportunity could have potentially knocked Him off course on His way to fulfill God's purpose. And yet, He didn't let a single ball drop. He took care of His family, even in His dying...

God and Gigs 360 Gold (Presentation (16:9))

Only one question This is a different kind of "Creator Checkup"... ..because I'm the one that needs checking on. I'm sending you this in the midst of the recovery period after a tough two weeks with my family. And while I know everyone in our community is facing something...it's important that I'm open and honest with you. Because it doesn't make sense to call this a "Checkup" if we don't admit when things are going right and when things are going wrong. My wife and I use this method all the...

Just how many hats are you wearing? I don't mean fedoras, sombreros or trucker hats, of course. I'm referring the metaphorical 'hats' that we all wear in our different roles, both in our creative work and in our families and personal lives. I experienced the hat-switching at a brand new level just this week, as I found myself coordinating a band for an artist 400 miles away, while simultaneously working on our church's podcast recording and publishing. Surely this is a sign of potential...
