She Won This Argument and Here's Why

Perfection or Progress?

My wife reminded me of this - again - as we drove up to Orlando from Miami last night for this year's Podfest Conference.

I've been blessed as I've been a featured presenter at nearly every Podfest since 2021.

If you're unfamiliar, Podfest is the largest independent podcaster community and conference in the world - and this community meets once a year in a fantastic 4-day event in Orlando.

This year, I'll be sharing on the same stages as luminaries like Dave Ramsey, Pat Flynn, John Lee Dumas, Roberto Blake, and so many other creators that I've looked up to for decades.

But back to what my wife told me.

I was lamenting the fact that I wanted my presentation to have all the bells and whistles that would hopefully wow my audience.

Of course, bells and whistles in tech can equal headaches, crashes, and the potential for a meltdown.

All in the name of impressing people who will probably see 100s of slide presentations over the weekend and will not remember if I had a cool dancing GIF in the middle of my slides.

And my wife, lovingly but annoyingly correct, called my worries another example of my "procrastinating perfectionism."

That's my tendency to try to make things perfect long after it makes sense to try to fix things. It's diminishing returns.

But that's me. What about YOUR creator lifestyle?

Maybe you've been delaying starting on your creative project or idea.

Or, even more likely, you're delaying finishing it.

Because you think - one - more - tweak - will make it exactly what it needs to be.

Sorry to break it to you - it won't.

The thing you spend the most time on might be the thing no one notices. (a humbling and frustrating realization, trust me I know)

Don't be a procrastinating perfectionist.

Make the edits, be as excellent as possible in your creative work - but then, finish it.

Send it.

Present it.

Progress beats perfection every time.

Divine Attention to Details As we step into this year's celebration of the risen Savior, one thought has been echoing in my mind. Jesus had the most important mission of all time - which meant He had the most potential distractions of anyone who ever lived. Any missed moment, lapse of judgement, or wasted opportunity could have potentially knocked Him off course on His way to fulfill God's purpose. And yet, He didn't let a single ball drop. He took care of His family, even in His dying...

God and Gigs 360 Gold (Presentation (16:9))

Only one question This is a different kind of "Creator Checkup"... ..because I'm the one that needs checking on. I'm sending you this in the midst of the recovery period after a tough two weeks with my family. And while I know everyone in our community is facing something...it's important that I'm open and honest with you. Because it doesn't make sense to call this a "Checkup" if we don't admit when things are going right and when things are going wrong. My wife and I use this method all the...

Just how many hats are you wearing? I don't mean fedoras, sombreros or trucker hats, of course. I'm referring the metaphorical 'hats' that we all wear in our different roles, both in our creative work and in our families and personal lives. I experienced the hat-switching at a brand new level just this week, as I found myself coordinating a band for an artist 400 miles away, while simultaneously working on our church's podcast recording and publishing. Surely this is a sign of potential...
