Vital Signs: It's About Time

There's a gospel song that starts with the phrase "Time is winding up."

If you don't know what that means, it's basically this - we don't have as much time as we think we do.

So it's imperative that, as creators, we understand when it's time to speed up or slow down so we can be in sync with God's schedule.

Problem is, our timing isn’t always linked to God’s timing — and that can be frustrating.

Scripture tells us, “There is a time for everything” (Ecc. 3), and that includes moments we’d never put on our calendars: waiting seasons, challenges, even setbacks.

Yet God has a purpose for all of them.

When we only focus on the moments that feel productive or “good,” we miss the deeper wisdom of His timing.

The difficult days AND the joyful ones are essential to the creative life God is shaping in you - and that's why we have to choose to honor His schedule instead of our own, and always consider how the Author of Time is setting things up over time.

If you need a fresh reminder of how to align your creative pace with God’s pace, join our latest personal reading plan on YouVersion, “The Creator’s Timing.” Together, we’ll walk through the Scriptures and discover how to wait, move, and create in rhythm with the One who knows the end from the beginning.

Lab Work: Relationship Refresh

One of the most overlooked parts of growing as a creator isn’t making more content — it’s cultivating deeper relationships.

Connections open more doors than algorithms ever will. (Thank goodness) Almost every major creative breakthrough I've had was a result of a new relationship.

But turning making connections into a "system" feels weird - unless you have a tool that keeps the focus on the people, which I'm now using daily.

Almost every morning for the past few weeks, I've been starting my work day by checking my Clay account. Clay connects your current contacts from your apps, social networks, etc...reminds you to follow up, and helps you remember important details. It’s like having a personal assistant for your network.

If you want to make relationship-building a natural habit instead of an occasional chore, try out Clay and see how it changes the way you connect.

The Consult: Should You Build a Community Or Build Your Portfolio?

Short answer? Both.

It’s easy to think you should wait until your portfolio is “ready” before you start building a community. But a community doesn’t just support your portfolio — it helps shape it.

Having a community of real supporters gives you instant feedback, encouragement during slow seasons, and real insight into what your audience values.

When your portfolio is ready, you’ll already have people invested in your journey, ready to cheer you on and share your work.

Build your portfolio and your people at the same time — and watch both thrive.

Prescriptions: What We're Doing Next

SEPT 1st - We move to the 360 app!

Just imagine having your Bible Study, Creative Best Friends, and Business Coaches in the same group. That's what we offer in this app.

Divine Attention to Details As we step into this year's celebration of the risen Savior, one thought has been echoing in my mind. Jesus had the most important mission of all time - which meant He had the most potential distractions of anyone who ever lived. Any missed moment, lapse of judgement, or wasted opportunity could have potentially knocked Him off course on His way to fulfill God's purpose. And yet, He didn't let a single ball drop. He took care of His family, even in His dying...

God and Gigs 360 Gold (Presentation (16:9))

Only one question This is a different kind of "Creator Checkup"... ..because I'm the one that needs checking on. I'm sending you this in the midst of the recovery period after a tough two weeks with my family. And while I know everyone in our community is facing something...it's important that I'm open and honest with you. Because it doesn't make sense to call this a "Checkup" if we don't admit when things are going right and when things are going wrong. My wife and I use this method all the...

Just how many hats are you wearing? I don't mean fedoras, sombreros or trucker hats, of course. I'm referring the metaphorical 'hats' that we all wear in our different roles, both in our creative work and in our families and personal lives. I experienced the hat-switching at a brand new level just this week, as I found myself coordinating a band for an artist 400 miles away, while simultaneously working on our church's podcast recording and publishing. Surely this is a sign of potential...
