😣 Frustrated? Here's Why It's Normal.

Is it possible to be grateful and frustrated at the same time?

Don't get me wrong. I know the Bible says that we should give thanks in everything, for that’s God’s will for us.

However, I believe there’s an honest place where you can be grateful and still admit that you don’t have everything that you want.

You may still feel like you’re lacking in something, whether it’s peace, finances, opportunities, growth, or things simply feel stagnant.

First, take a deep breath, my friend.

You are not denying that God is taking care of you, or that God has given you everything you have. If He doesn’t do anything else for you, you would still be grateful.

I call this feeling "holy frustration".

Think about Paul when he said that he forgets all the things that are behind and he presses on toward what is ahead, because he knows there’s something ahead.

There is something that is not in his hands yet, that he hasn’t yet apprehended.

And so, as we approach Thanksgiving as creatives, we should acknowledge both our gratefulness and our frustrations.

Not because we’re saying God hasn’t done enough, but because we realize we trust Him with the more.

And because we trust Him with the more, we trust Him to let Him know that we know there’s more, and that we are ready to handle the process.

Even when it’s hard, even when things don’t look right.

Because the last time that we did that, He came through, and we are now sitting in the blessings that we prayed for the last time that we felt that we weren’t progressing.

So first, my prayer is that you would have a spirit of gratitude that will overwhelm you and that will keep and guard your heart and mind.

Secondly, that we would band together as a creative community, acknowledge that we are capable of more, that God has more, and that if we simply seek Him and encourage each other, we’ll also see the future blessings that we are praying for.

Do you REALLY need what you think you need? I know - that's a triggering question. I don't mean to insult your intelligence or pretend that you don't have legitimate needs. But I ask nonetheless. One of my favorite movie scenes is from "The Jerk", comedian Steve Martin's first film. In a crazy moment after his life falls apart, he begins to leave his house, but returns over and over to collect little trinkets and random items. Every time, he says the same phrase, "That's all I need!" Then he...

Got a lot on your mind? Well, if you don't, I'd love to learn how you keep yourself from being overrun by all of the things that surround us daily. Like many creatives, my biggest mental battle is usually overthinking and being unable to 'switch off'. Wake up...and immediately thoughts of to-do lists, worries and events flood my head. Try to go to sleep...and I'm besieged by that "one more thing" rattling around in my brain that I didn't finish, post or complete. Maybe that's you as well....

If you're fighting a battle for your peace, you're fighting a good fight. I've become more and more aware that my greatest daily challenge is not achieving my dreams, or making a tremendous income. It's experiencing daily peace and joy without being overwhelmed by my circumstances. Isaiah 26:3 provides the key to achieving this kind of peace. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. (ESV) The question is this: do we, as creatively oriented...
