Why It's OK to Be Out of Your Mind

Got a lot on your mind?

Well, if you don't, I'd love to learn how you keep yourself from being overrun by all of the things that surround us daily.

Like many creatives, my biggest mental battle is usually overthinking and being unable to 'switch off'.

Wake up...and immediately thoughts of to-do lists, worries and events flood my head.

Try to go to sleep...and I'm besieged by that "one more thing" rattling around in my brain that I didn't finish, post or complete.

Maybe that's you as well.

Since I've realized my struggle in this area, I've been focusing on studying what the Bible says about the mind.

One of the thunderbolt revelations I had recently was in 1 Corinthians 2:6, where Paul says that we have access to the mind of Christ.

“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

For real?

So, here's where I think this applies to you and I as creatively-oriented believers.

That jumble of thoughts - both creative and otherwise - doesn't mean that we don't have the mind of Christ.

My studies seem to imply that the 'mind' in Scripture isn't as much our brainwaves, nor our thinking - but instead our disposition and approach to life.

So you can be a highly creative ball of energy, or a cerebral, contemplative thinker - either way, your access to the mind of Christ means you can direct your thoughts the way Jesus was able to direct his - toward His Father's will and His ultimate purpose.

So, in a way, being "out of your mind" isn't a bad thing. As long as you're moving closer to accessing His mind.

I'm praying today for you that you'll see your mind working in tandem with and under the authority of the Holy Spirit.

When that happens, I believe you'll enjoy a peaceful relationship with your thoughts - and very likely a burst of inspiration from the peace you enjoy.

Are you in tune with your thought life as a creative? If so, let me know in the poll below.

If you're fighting a battle for your peace, you're fighting a good fight. I've become more and more aware that my greatest daily challenge is not achieving my dreams, or making a tremendous income. It's experiencing daily peace and joy without being overwhelmed by my circumstances. Isaiah 26:3 provides the key to achieving this kind of peace. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. (ESV) The question is this: do we, as creatively oriented...

It was an honest confession. One of the creatives in my church's small group for artists, where I've been sharing our God and Gigs devotionals, told me she's struggling to reconcile the amount of time and effort it takes to keep pushing her creative projects forward. Tell me if you've ever felt something like this quote from her message. "Been feeling a little down & discouraged lately when it comes to my goals with music...because it requires a lot of time, effort and money... sometimes the...
