What God Showed Me In Oklahoma

Sometimes...every once in a while.... God makes it obvious.

Attending the 2nd ever YouVersion Partner Summit in Oklahoma City this week was more than a full-circle moment.

It was God making the path clear - and I want to make sure that you see how your creative life is a part of that path.

For those who don't know, YouVersion is the ministry that created the first Bible app.

It's the most popular Bible platform in the world, and is now on more than a billion devices.

I became a YouVersion content partner in 2024, and it was almost entirely an accident. I don't remember when I applied, and I certainly didn't expect to be selected. But I do remember that I was ready because I had already written a devotional for creatives, Your Art, God's Heart, so I had sample material that I could submit.

Therein lies the first lesson - God wants you to prepare and sow into your creative future in advance, before you know how He'll use what you've prepared.

But there was more.

I've realized, after writing six plans on the app in the last two years, that I have much more to learn about communicating God's Word effectively.

So now I have joined a fantastic mastermind of writers and creators led by Jackie Bledsoe, the author of "7 Rings of Marriage". The members of his Authorpreneur Mastermind are a collection of some of the most authentic and excellence-seeking creatives I've ever met. Being in the same room with them was like drinking from a deep well of insight, faith and wisdom.

From meeting the YouVersion team in their headquarters, to praying and dreaming together about how we can bless more people with knowledge and direction from God's Word - the experience showed me that you don't know how far you can go until you get to know people who are also moving forward.

And as icing on the cake, I got to meet one of the mentors who almost single-handledly inspired me to create God and Gigs - Matt Tommey, of The Thriving Christian Artist.

We've talked virtually as we've guested on each other's podcasts, but seeing him and meeting his lovely wife Tanya was totally unexpected and incredibly fulfilling.

The bottom line - besides all the incredible information I received from this conference on the power of the Bible and the ways we share it - is that God knows what you have to offer, and will prepare the way for you to share it if you step forward in faith.

I shared more insights from the conference, and asked for your input in this week's mini - episode on The God and Gigs Show, which you can check out here.

Got a lot on your mind? Well, if you don't, I'd love to learn how you keep yourself from being overrun by all of the things that surround us daily. Like many creatives, my biggest mental battle is usually overthinking and being unable to 'switch off'. Wake up...and immediately thoughts of to-do lists, worries and events flood my head. Try to go to sleep...and I'm besieged by that "one more thing" rattling around in my brain that I didn't finish, post or complete. Maybe that's you as well....

If you're fighting a battle for your peace, you're fighting a good fight. I've become more and more aware that my greatest daily challenge is not achieving my dreams, or making a tremendous income. It's experiencing daily peace and joy without being overwhelmed by my circumstances. Isaiah 26:3 provides the key to achieving this kind of peace. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. (ESV) The question is this: do we, as creatively oriented...

It was an honest confession. One of the creatives in my church's small group for artists, where I've been sharing our God and Gigs devotionals, told me she's struggling to reconcile the amount of time and effort it takes to keep pushing her creative projects forward. Tell me if you've ever felt something like this quote from her message. "Been feeling a little down & discouraged lately when it comes to my goals with music...because it requires a lot of time, effort and money... sometimes the...
