If you're fighting a battle for your peace, you're fighting a good fight.
I've become more and more aware that my greatest daily challenge is not achieving my dreams, or making a tremendous income.
It's experiencing daily peace and joy without being overwhelmed by my circumstances.
Isaiah 26:3 provides the key to achieving this kind of peace.
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. (ESV)
The question is this: do we, as creatively oriented believers, struggle more than others to keep our minds focused on the Father?
I'm not sure that's true, but I do believe we deal with different distractions.
You may find yourself constantly thinking of what you need to do to finish your current project. The next idea that you should be working on. Or the problems that prevented your last idea from working out.
Desires, distractions and doubts swirl together in your mind like a hurricane of hustle.
I've been there, and I've felt the tension as I've wondered - is this the way I'm supposed to feel all the time?
Let's be clear - your creativity is not the problem.
You were designed to have a powerful and consistently active imagination.
The issue is whether you are willing to surrender the process and results to Him.
The enemy would like nothing better than for you to become consumed with your own abilities, potential rewards, and everything else that is ultimately out of your control. He desperately wants to distract you and turn your God-given desires into something you'd destroy yourself trying to obtain.
Perfect peace, on the other hand, is granted to the person who, at any moment, is willing to lay it all down, and say "God, my goals and dreams pale in comparison to Your Presence."
I pray today that you'll pursue God's perfect peace.
Don't let your worries or circumstances distract you from what you already have in Christ.
That understanding can make your creative lifestyle so much more of a blessing instead than a burden.
