Are you holding out on God? 🀨

Have you ever felt "weird" about trying to grow your own creative platform? Does sharing your work in a public manner feel like selfishness?

If so, I think this thought about a very famous Scripture verse will help you.

In the famous parable of the talents in Matthew 25, we're introduced to 3 servants who are given talents by their master.

Most of us are familiar with the story. 2 of the servants receive an amount to steward, they make a return on the investment, and their master returns and rewards them. The other servant hides his investment, and the master comes back and severely punishes him.

But take a look at what the unfaithful servant says:

'β€œThen he who had received the one talent came and said, β€˜Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’'

Matthew 25:24-25

What's so interesting is that the servant did NOT say that he lacked ability, nor did he blame his fear of failure.

What he mentions is that, in his opinion, the Master was playing by different rules.

When we refuse to share our work with the world, it's not just about us. We're revealing a fundamental flaw in our perspective on God.

Because the servant thought the master was harsh, unfair, and unjust, it was enough justification for him to refuse to grow what he was given.

Here's the issue I think we might be missing in this parable.

When we hide or feel unworthy to share our gifts with the world - are we doing that out of humility, or....do we actually believe God isn't playing fair? Are we subtly blaming Him for our lack of success or notoriety?

Hate to say it, but I think so.

My challenge to you is...whether your creative gift is bubbling to the surface constantly, or you're constantly tempted to hide it...remember that at the end of the day, it doesn't belong to you.

You can share your gifts wherever you feel God is leading but make sure you're sharing it in SOME way.

It's why you were given your gifts in the first place.

Got a lot on your mind? Well, if you don't, I'd love to learn how you keep yourself from being overrun by all of the things that surround us daily. Like many creatives, my biggest mental battle is usually overthinking and being unable to 'switch off'. Wake up...and immediately thoughts of to-do lists, worries and events flood my head. Try to go to sleep...and I'm besieged by that "one more thing" rattling around in my brain that I didn't finish, post or complete. Maybe that's you as well....

If you're fighting a battle for your peace, you're fighting a good fight. I've become more and more aware that my greatest daily challenge is not achieving my dreams, or making a tremendous income. It's experiencing daily peace and joy without being overwhelmed by my circumstances. Isaiah 26:3 provides the key to achieving this kind of peace. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. (ESV) The question is this: do we, as creatively oriented...
