I Can't Believe I'm Announcing This! 😮

Have you ever heard of Brock Purdy?

In 2022, he was selected with the final pick of the NFL draft, which gave him the dubious title of "Mr. Irrelevant".

This nickname is reserved for the football player that is selected last and therefore, supposedly has the least chance of successfully making it onto a team.

If you're a football fan, you know what happened next.

Within a year, Brock Purdy was catapulted into the starting position as quarterback of his team, and consequently became a star player. He's led his team to a Super Bowl appearance, and is now one of the most highly regarded and well-compensated quarterbacks in the league.

Here's the connection to our community - thanks to you, I now have a chance to emulate Brock Purdy's success.

Based on popular vote in the Podcast Movement selection process for speaker sessions, I will be one of the speakers at their first ever conference in New York City.

And like Brock Purdy, I made it in at the very last spot. The top 40 sessions were selected, and I'm number 40.

I'm ecstatic of course...but more so, I hope this incredible achievement shows you 3 key truths about setting goals for your creative and spiritual growth.

Aim high

I was well aware that applying to speak at this conference was a big step up. My comfort zone of speaking at conferences in my state (Podfest) had to be stretched if I ever wanted to discover what I was capable of.

Ask often

You probably got more than a few emails from me asking for your support and vote. That wasn't easy, especially knowing that you might not be interested in podcasting or content creation conferences.

But the Bible gives us clear instructions to "ask, seek and knock"...and had I not asked for support, there's no way I would have gotten that very last vote to push me into the top 40.

Anytime you feel like someone will judge you for making a request, ask yourself where that voice is coming from. Is God telling you NOT to ask? Most likely, He's telling you to ask more.

Accept the Challenges

One of my immediate fears of applying for this speaker spot was the logistical and financial challenges I would face.

Podcast Movement is scheduled immediately after a major event in my church that will take all of my attention for a few days. New York accomodations are notoriously expensive.

And I'm well aware that while my speaker spot is a huge accomplishment, I'll have to do much more while I'm there to optimize my experience and create long term benefits.

All of those challenges are not obstacles - they are opportunities for me to be more resourceful and grow in my creative and entrepreneurial capacity. You can do the same in any new venture you take on. When your vision grows, the skills and mindset that you'll need to achieve will grow along with it.

You Deserve My Gratitude

From the bottom of my heart, thank you - whether you shared a post, commented, voted, or in any way supported this next chapter of my creative journey. I can't wait to find out what God has in store for our community as a result of your encouragement and support!

If you're interested in joining me in New York City at this event, you can find more info here. Note, you don't have to be a podcaster to come! So many incredible content creators and marketers will be sharing knowledge that will benefit you in all sorts of creative areas and business networks.

Got a lot on your mind? Well, if you don't, I'd love to learn how you keep yourself from being overrun by all of the things that surround us daily. Like many creatives, my biggest mental battle is usually overthinking and being unable to 'switch off'. Wake up...and immediately thoughts of to-do lists, worries and events flood my head. Try to go to sleep...and I'm besieged by that "one more thing" rattling around in my brain that I didn't finish, post or complete. Maybe that's you as well....

If you're fighting a battle for your peace, you're fighting a good fight. I've become more and more aware that my greatest daily challenge is not achieving my dreams, or making a tremendous income. It's experiencing daily peace and joy without being overwhelmed by my circumstances. Isaiah 26:3 provides the key to achieving this kind of peace. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. (ESV) The question is this: do we, as creatively oriented...

Sometimes...every once in a while.... God makes it obvious. Attending the 2nd ever YouVersion Partner Summit in Oklahoma City this week was more than a full-circle moment. It was God making the path clear - and I want to make sure that you see how your creative life is a part of that path. For those who don't know, YouVersion is the ministry that created the first Bible app. It's the most popular Bible platform in the world, and is now on more than a billion devices. I became a YouVersion...
